We're there. Humans have finally realized an idea (or at least a glimpse) of personal flight. NASA is developing a way for the Puffin to be the first commercial, electric, and personal plane.
NASA developed the Puffin to run off of two lithium-phosphate batteries, supplying power to two separate electric prop engines. Top speed estimates are somewhere around 300mph. Being an electric vehicle, it has zero emissions. The only drawback? 80km per charge. This is as of right now, however, and with the different aspects of Moore's Law, scientists expect that as the technology for the batteries improves, so will the Puffin's range.
